93rd Year in the Polled Hereford Business!!

Curtis Polled Herefords

Virgil, South Dakota

Curtis Polled Herefords began in 1916 when Frank L. Curtis Sr. purchased his first Polled Hereford bull.  When Frank L. Curtis Jr. was 13 years old, he purchased his first Polled Hereford cow with money he earned trapping animals and selling their fur.  Together they marketed their bulls at private treaty until 1953 when they held their first bull sale at Miller, SF.

Daughter Joyce and son-in-law Donald Dubois joined the operation in 1958, followed by daughter Carol and son-in-law Larry Gildemaster in 1974.

Frank Jr. and his wife Hazel dispersed their cow herd in 1978.  Donald Dubois passed away June 9, 2008 and Joyce dispersed their cow herd in 2009.

Larry and Carol will continue the Curtis tradition with their 200 head cow herd based on strong cow families greatly influenced by the following sires:  DR WORLD CLASS 517 10H, AH HEAVY DUTY 11G, LLL SPADE 106K, and KCF BENNETT 3008 M116.

We will continue with our Annual Production Sale the third Saturday in February.  Our 58th Annual Sale will be February 20, 2010.

We are a "hands on" family operation, deriving our total income from Polled Hereford cattle.

Visitors are always welcome.  Please feel free to contact us.  We love to talk about the cattle.
